For many, food the most basic, life–sustaining sustenance, has become the enemy. The body has become the enemy. How did this happen?
Even when the body is ready to move on and heal, the mind can stay stuck in the painful past when pain has become a way of life. I know this is happening with a client when their body is saying a food is compatible but they have been told and believe certain foods are harmful or have had a lot of food intolerance issues over a long period of time. In this case, the compatible food, even highly compatible food may have the expected negative effect (placebo effect). Even when healing is happening and becoming evident, It’s hard to trust again. Trust the freedom. Trust the healing.
We are not here to live in a “Food Prison”…any prison. We are here to live abundantly!
There is a way to move past the fear of food and heal this relationship as the body heals. Fear does become a habit, just like any other habit. And habits are made to be broken.
First, let’s consider this…
Everything is energy vibrating from extremely low to extremely high and everything in between… including our food and “our thoughts”. Many have heard me say, “If you judge your food, it will judge you back”.
How many have said, “This cake is going straight to my hips.”? Or something similar? You just helped it get there!
The energy of judgement is very low and the energy of unconditional love is extremely high. “Like” energy attracts “like” energy. We may say we want one thing, but our negative thoughts, words and resulting emotions are saying just the opposite. Keeping this in mind, it is not hard to imagine what happens when we judge our food and what is possible when we bless it with love and gratitude and our undivided, loving attention.
I had a client early on that challenged this premise to the extreme. This client and I had been working together for about 6 months and during that time her vibrant health had been restored and she had met her weight loss goal. She had healed the “root” of her dis-ease.
The time had arrived for her to go on the cruise her and her husband had been looking forward to for a long time. This experience was really going to put to the ultimate test what she said she knew and now believed. She was a little nervous…
Was it possible to go on a cruise where FOOD is the main event without sabotaging her good health or gaining weight? The proof is in the puddin’. She lost weight on the cruise. Who does that!
When we bless our food, give it our attention (love), and enjoy it, we give it every opportunity to bless our body, no matter what it is. Our body is Divinely Designed to take from the food what it needs and release what it doesn’t. “We” clog the wheel of what our body does naturally when we judge the food.
It’s easy to fall into the judgment trap when so much of our food supply contains toxins and chemicals. It’s becoming hard to even know what is in our food”, especially when dining out. A lot of people eat out these days! It was hard for me to stay out of judgment until Spirit provided the answer.
“Our Source Good/God is in All of Creation. It cannot be any other way.”
We may call something “manmade”, but the reality… God Stuff or Good Stuff runs through all of it. It may be far removed, but it is still there. Consider that it takes Mother Earth’s organic materials to make a chemical. The creative clay (Divine Inspiration) and physical clay, Mother Earth (God’s birthing place), births all of our creations.
With this in mind, how might we amplify the good that is the back of everything; bring it into the forefront and expand it? Love and gratitude does this, not only in our food; but in all of our life! Judgement keeps the good (the love) buried. It is what buried our Love and our Good to begin with.
If food has become the enemy in your experience, you might experiment with a love and gratitude blessing over your food (no matter what it is) and then give it your undivided, loving attention…turn off the TV, close the book. Pay attention to the flavors and textures. Pay attention to when you feel satisfied. Enjoy it!
There is NO doubt that a sincere, heart-felt love and gratitude blessing raises the energy of the food. I demonstrate this in every workshop in a way that can be “seen” with your physical eyes. Your loving attention and enjoyment can even bring the food into compatibility with your body. There is a GOOD reason every culture has been blessing food from the beginning of time in one form or another.

“Thank you for this delicious abundance! Thank you for every creation that took part in this one. Thank you for the blessing of perfect nourishment this now provides this/our body/bodies. And, thank you for the miracle of this body that knows EXACTLY what to do with it. Thank you for the sheer pleasure it brings!” In immense appreciation, love and gratitude….Amen!
Short Version:
“Let the Good/God that is in this food be expanded to bless my/our body/bodies mightily! And, thank you to every creation that took part in this one!” Amen!
While you are at it, extend this blessing into the world’s food supply. Many do not have a choice in what they eat. We have the power with our prayers and blessings to bring out the good collectively. As within, so without….
NOTE: A blessing can become a curse when you bless the food and THEN JUDGE IT. Once you have blessed it, let go of your mind and be present with your senses.
More practices for healing the relationship with food…
Mantra: “I allow this food to heal me.” Repeat as often as necessary.
One Minute Meditation
This practice allows you to see your fearful thoughts and align them with what you want every waking hour. Just set an intention to see these thoughts, set your alarm to remind you it is time to sit with your breath for 1 minute. The thoughts will arise. Notice them and go back to your breathing. Afterwards, write them down and realign with what you want.
Use this for any thoughts that are opposing your Good! Most people break the habit of negative thinking within 4 weeks when practiced diligently. This is your ticket to freedom! Bringing into the conscious mind what is running you from behind.
Food Meditation
This was one of my favorite events during a meditation retreat years ago. Go figure! I’m a foodie! What a beautiful way to fully experience the food with all of your senses. Have a food meditation party! You will need a journal for this.
- To start, sit comfortably at your dining table. Blind-fold yourself. Have a friend or family member, not participating, place a large bowl full of various fruits in front of you “they” have chosen. Maybe some things you haven’t tried before. Bless everything in the bowl.
- Now choose a piece of fruit. Take your time… Feel it all. Take mental note of textures. Listen. How does it sound to run your fingers over each one? Then choose one.
- Bring the fruit to your nose and take in the aroma or lack of. It may need to be peeled to release its scent. Do so very slowly, honoring the process. Let your sense of smell fully engage. Let go. If the fruit is familiar, the smell alone may bring up powerful memories; may take you back to your childhood or beyond.
- It’s time to eat it now. Savor it slowly with all your attention on how it feels in your mouth…the burst of flavor so very unique. What experiences does it remind you of? Make a mental note. Continue to enjoy, savoring every bite.
- Remove your blindfold. You may be surprised by what you chose and how much you enjoyed it. You have made a new friend. Or NOT!
- It’s time to journal your experience. Write down everything, from start to finish. You may be very surprised at what arrives.
- Develop a habit of enjoying your food to this extent as much as possible (without the blindfold).
